The calendar is the heart of Famitly — everyone's plans in one place.
Views
- Web: Day, 3D (three days), Week, Month and Agenda. Clicking a day in Month opens that day.
- Phone: Agenda, Day, 3 Day, Week and Month. In Agenda, “View past events” shows what's already happened.
Adding an event
- Tap “+ New” and choose “Create an event”. (The same menu also has “Plan a meal”, “Add a birthday”, speaking an event and scanning a paper.)
- Give it a title, and choose “Who's going?”. On the web, leave everyone unticked if it's for the whole family. On the phone, tap “Who's going?” to see the family with a tick by each person going: tap someone to tick or untick them, or “Everyone” for the whole family. Someone always stays ticked, so an event is never for nobody.
- Set the start and end, or tick “All day”. For several days in a row, set the last day.
- Choose “Repeats” if it happens again — every day, week, month or year — and, if you like, when it stops.
- Add reminders and notes, then save. “Who gets reminders” chooses who is reminded: on Everyone (the default) the whole family is, including anyone who joins later; pick people and the reminders go to who's going plus them. Reminders arrive by email and as a push notification. Famitly doesn't send an alert when an event is added.
On the web you can also click an empty time in Day, 3D or Week view for a quick one-hour event, and drag an event to a new time or day. Dragging a repeating event moves every occurrence. On the phone, open the event and edit it. The event shows who's going, its reminders and who gets them, and for a repeating event when it stops. A planned meal opens in the meal form, where you can change the meal, the dish, the day and the ingredients (kept on the meal's shopping list). In the calendar, on Home and in Search a planned meal shows as “🍽️ Dinner · Fish tacos” (just “🍽️ Fish tacos” in the small Month, Week and 3 Day boxes).
Deleting
On the phone, open the event and tap Delete. For a repeating event you choose “This event only”, “This and following events” or “All events”. Deleting a birthday removes it from every year.
Who's coming
People in “Who's going?” can answer Going, Maybe or Can't make it — on the phone in the event's “Your RSVP”, on the web when you open the event.
Colours
Each family member has a colour, and on the web an event takes the colour of the first person going. A colour you pick under Family > Edit profile on the web is saved for the whole family: it shows on every device — on the calendar and Family page, and on the phone on Home and when you choose people for an event.
Premium adds birthdays, calendar filters (by type or family member) and search, and second and third reminders on an event. On the Free plan an event has one reminder; an event that got more while your family was on Premium keeps them, and you can still remove them or change the first, but not add or change the second and third. Famitly warns you when a new event overlaps another at the same time.
Reminders
Each event can have up to three reminders: 5, 10 or 30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours, 1 day or 1 week before. The first is free; the second and third are part of Premium.
- Who gets them: everyone in “Who's going?” plus anyone you pick under “Notify”. If both are empty, the whole family is reminded.
- How: by email, and as a notification on any phone where the Famitly app is installed and notifications are allowed.
- When: reminders can arrive up to 5 minutes after the chosen time, never before. For an all-day event they count back from 9 AM on the day — “1 day before” arrives at 9 AM the day before.
- Birthdays start with reminders a week and a day before when added on the web (a day before on the phone). Change them like any event.
Digests
- Every morning at 6 AM your time, an email with the day ahead: “Your Famitly day ahead”.
- At 7 AM, the phone app sends a short morning summary notification — tap it to open the calendar.
- Every Monday at 6 AM, an email with the week ahead.
All three are on to start with, and each person can switch each one off for themselves: web — Family page, “Your notifications”; phone — More > Family > Account & Security > Notifications. The choice is saved on your account, so it applies on every device. Reminders can't be switched off: they always go to the people an event notifies.
Getting times right
Reminder and digest times follow the timezone on your profile. Famitly fills it in from your phone or browser the first time you sign in. To change it: web — Family > Edit profile > Timezone; phone — More > Family, tap your card, Edit profile, then choose the timezone. If times look a few hours off, check this first.
Recipes and meal planning are free. Scanning a recipe from photos is part of Premium.
Adding a recipe
- Type it in: “+ ADD”, then the title, ingredients (one per line — they stay in the order you write them), directions, servings, prep and cook times and notes.
- From a website: tap “URL” (phone: “🔗 URL”), paste the recipe's address and tap “NEXT”. Famitly reads the recipe and its picture from the page for you to check.
- From photos (Premium): tap “📸 Scan” and add up to 4 photos of one recipe — for example the ingredients page and the method page. Famitly's AI fills in the recipe for you to review and save. One scan uses one AI scan from your family's monthly allowance (shared with Scan Paper), however many photos it has.
Photos
Each recipe has one photo (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB — the phone resizes photos for you). It's stored with the recipe, so everyone in the family sees it on every device. Adding a new photo replaces the old one. On the phone, a scanned recipe uses your first photo, and any QR code in your photos is saved as a link on the recipe.
Planning meals
- Open a recipe and choose “+ ADD TO” (phone: “Add To”) > Calendar — or on the calendar choose “+ New” > “Plan a meal”.
- Pick the day and the meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner…). It appears on the calendar as an all-day entry like “[Dinner] Spaghetti”.
- Tick the option to add the ingredients to a shopping list if you want them on the shopping list too.
Planned from a recipe, the meal takes the recipe's website as its link when the recipe's source is a web address (a source like a cookbook stays on the recipe), and the phone says when the meal is on the calendar. “Save as a recipe” is offered only when you plan a meal from the calendar, since a meal planned from a recipe already has one.
“Add To Shopping List” on a recipe makes a new 🛒 list with its ingredients.
Good to know
- Search finds recipes by title.
- Categories you add to a recipe (up to 20, each up to 50 characters) are saved with the recipe, so everyone in the family sees them on every device. Categories added before 19 October 2026 were kept on the device that added them; they move to the recipe the first time you open it on that device.
- On the web, “Print” gives you a clean copy for the kitchen.
